NEFFA Ritual Dance Team Call for Applications/Videos

It’s NEFFA time! Ritual Dance teams (morris, sword, rapper, &c) are cordially invited to participate in NEFFA Online 2022 on April 22-24, 2022. There are two ways teams can participate:

LIVE ON ZOOM If your team is able to gather in one location to perform on camera, or if you have one or several dance leader(s) prepared to offer a Zoom teaching workshop or presentation, please submit an application by February 15 at http://apply.neffa.org. Under “What category best describes this application?” select Ritual (morris, rapper, etc.) for questions specific to ritual teams.

VIDEO If you are not able to offer a live performance/teaching workshop/presentation, you are encouraged to submit a video using the form and instructions at https://www.neffa.org/call-for-neffa-videos/. Videos received by March 15 may be included in our Morris Medley in the Festival Lobby, which is far and away the most watched video in our NEFFA Video Archive!

We know the last two years have been exceptionally challenging for large groups and teams who have not been able to meet safely to practice/perform in person. We invite you to get creative!

  • Edit video of past performances with a NEFFA 2022 introduction
  • Teach a jig or other dance suitable for one or a few dancers
  • Teach a Morris 101 session with the basic foundations of a single tradition
  • Present a talk on the history of morris, the geography/taxonomy of traditions, &c
  • Lead a session of favorite morris songs
  • Perform a Zoom mummers play or teach a how-to mummers’ workshop/readthrough

Or propose something we haven’t thought of yet. We know how important team camaraderie is, and we invite you to use NEFFA as an opportunity to pull your team together to collaborate on something special for the Festival.

If you have any questions, please reach out to program@neffa.org. We will be working closely with Ritual Chair Jeff Keller to develop a special ritual program track with a mix of video and live Zoom performance/workshops for the Festival.

Get your applications in by February 15 for live online performances and/or submit your videos by March 15 for inclusion in the Morris Medley, or by April 10 with the General call for videos. We look forward to making ritual teams a vibrant part of NEFFA Online 2022.
